Nerja - The Ideal Holiday Destination
By Ralph Delis

The glitz and glamour of the city life to which we have become habituated to does not appeal to me. Instead I prefer places which are close to nature and life is not trapped amidst the concrete jungle. I am sure there are many people like me who would prefer the same. Nerja, situated in southern Spain is a place that is ideal for nature loving people, still offering enough facilities to shop, dine and have a tapa. Nerja is a town on the Costa del Sol in the province of Malaga and has been one of the most attractive tourist spots. Located in the eastern region its about 50 kilometres from Malaga, it can be also reached easily be reached from Malaga airport or alternatively, less than two hours drive from Granada airport.

The first thing you will notice after reaching the two is the wonderful climatic condition that prevail whole year. Add to that the combination of picturesque views of mountains and beaches and you have a wonderful combination. The beaches range for about thirteen kilometres of which the well-known Burriana beach which has won international fame. With such variety of sightseeing and a fantastic climate, there is nothing that we hold you from experiencing the ideal holiday. Your mind automatically releases nowadays stress in such exotic conditions that this place will be a good choice for those who were recommended by the doctor to go for a change. It's a public secret that many renowned artists have set up their residences here which gives us an indication of the overall beauty of this place.

For families with youngsters, usually restless and always keen to be engaged in activities, there are plenty of possibilities. They can choose from a wide range of activities such as fishing, diving, water skiing, canoeing, water bikes, and the list goes on. The cliffs also require special mention. They provide tourists with breathtaking sceneries and are of breathtaking beauty, a must see for all visitors. Amongst the main of attractions are the Nerja caves that have a historical significance as the remains of the prehistoric inhabitants can be seen and additionally there are many ancient paintings that can be found here. The Nerja caves happen to be the third most visited place in Spain! Another reason that makes these caves special is because they are the a only doorway to the long series of potholes which ranges in between the mountains. There is a special festival called the "Nerja Caves Festival" and this is something not to be missed.

Nerja, being one of the main tourist attractions, provides a wide array of accommodations from friendly budget hostals to luxury hotels. Especially worth mentioning is the fact that Nerja has become a very popular destinations for rural villa rentals: more than 30 providers offer approximately 500 villas to rent in Nerja and surrounding villages such as Frigiliana and Maro. This way of enjoying your holiday reunites nature and privacy in a very special way. Food lovers also have plenty of choice and should certainly try the fried fish "pescaïto" in the local restaurants and if this is not enough there are also many restaurants with a more international orientated menu. Enjoy your stay!
