Let’s keep it simple; to reach Casablanca, from outside the African Continent, you will have
to sail or fly.
Reaching Morocco by boat is possible from several destinations.
In Southern Spain you can sail from Algeciras to Tangier in 60 to 70 minutes. The boat
leaves hourly and the fare is approximately € 30.
The boat from Tarifa to Tangier is even faster: it will get you there in 35 minutes. It sails five
times a day and cost approximately € 20.
Finally you can sail from France, Sète, if you care to spend 36 hours on a boat. Fares vary
according to company and season. Comarit charges € 46 (one-way) for a seat during the
low season. The lowest fares at Comanav start at € 105 one-way for a bunk bed. You can
sail from Sète to Tangier two to four times a week, all year around
To find and book your boat trip; simply Google “Ferry from Algeciras to Tangier”, “Ferry from
Tarifa to Tangier” or “Ferry from Sète to Tangier” and you are on your way.
It is worth spending a few days in Tangier if you have the possibility, before you move on to
Casablanca. The train takes almost three hours – but it has air-conditioned and trains in
Morocco are very comfortable and fairly inexpensive. You can also get cheap flights between
Tangier and Casablanca. If you are two-three people travelling together try to negotiate a
fair price with a taxi.
Getting to Casablanca by flight has become a lot easier, now that the Moroccan government
has allowed low-price-airlines into Morocco.
When you are looking for flights be aware the airport code is; "CMN" and the official name
of Casablanca airport is “Mohammed V Airport”.
Today many airlines fly into Casablanca from most major European cities, Middle Eastern
capital cities, as well as from New York and Montreal.
Once at the airport, getting to Casablanca can be done by train, shuttle bus, or taxi (many
are waiting outside the arrivals terminal). The airport is located 30km (19 miles) south of
Casablanca.
