5 Tips Before Your Adventure Tour
|
Menu

You have the ticket. The Great "unknown" is waiting for you out there in the big
world. Your adrenalin is a little bit more noticeable than usually - you feel alive.
You're going places. You are going to spend time with a bunch of new people,
whom you haven't met yet - exploring a new part of the world. This is exiting
and you can't wait to get going.
The excitement, the feel of being alive, the anticipation - that's all part of the joy of
travelling and what makes it so great. I feel like a child before Christmas, when I'm about to
take off to a new and uncovered destination.
However before you go there are at least five things you need to attend to:
1. If you are going on an adventure trip that involves any kind of hiking or walking; you
need good footwear and socks.
2. Check in good time that your passport is valid and are not expiring during your journey.
You also need to find out if you need a visa to enter the country / countries on your
itinerary and if so; get the process started in good time.
3. Adventure tour destinations are not likely to be places where the mainstream tourist
goes on a package tour. This means you have to do a little research on the medical
condition of your destination. Do you need vaccinations of any kind or Malaria pills? The
Foreign & Commonwealth Office FCO can supply you with travel advice by country. Just
Google it and keep up-to-date. You will also need a travel-first-aid-kit, Insect Repellents &
Sun Protection Crème.
4. I am not trying to be a worry-wart. I have simply lived long enough to know that
accidents do happen - so crossing your fingers is not going to do it; you need a travel
insurance that covers adventure travel off the beaten track.
5. Photocopy all important documents for your upcoming trip. Your Passport, traveller's
cheques, bank cards, insurance documents and your flight tickets / details. It is a good idea
to keep a set somewhere in your luggage when travelling. To be on the safe side; I always
e-mail myself a set of copies - meaning if I should loose my papers, the copies will never be
further away than the nearest internet café.
It gives peace of mind knowing that all the formalities are under control, so you can spend
your time - not worrying - but enjoying your adventure tour
