Parisienne Holiday
By Edward Kirwan

One night in Paris is simply not enough. With so much to experience by
day and by night you simply must allow yourself more time. If you close
your eyes and name the first five things that spring to mind you will see
what I mean.

The Eiffel Tower, The Champs Elysee, Notre Dame, the Louvre,
Montmartre,
La Moulin Rouge and not forgetting  Disney Land are some
names that spring to mind. Do you imagine for one moment you could fit
these into a day or a week-end stay in Paris. And I have not yet
mentioned the superb selection of Parisienne restaurants and cafes, the
haute couture or a stroll beside the Seine. There are the many
monuments, art galleries, palaces, gardens and museums to enjoy.  But
don’t worry because you can always come back another day and they will
still be there waiting for you.

Paris is one of the world’s most romantic and intriguing cities. The Eiffel
Tower
(Tour Eiffel) is the focal point for many visitors. On a clear day the
views over the city and beyond are exquisite. Built in 1889 by Gustav
Eiffel, it was way ahead of its time. Take the lift to the third stage and
gaze over Paris at your leisure. You can even see the enormous springs
which it is mounted on if you go downstairs.

With the help of a guide book it is easy to soak in the atmosphere of
Paris on foot. The famous Champs Elysee leads to the Arc de Triomphe
where, apart from the obvious, you can be amazed at the hectic, non-
stop traffic that encircles it. For exclusive shopping the Place Vendome is
the place to visit; then relax with a coffee or aperitif in one of the many
pavement cafes.

To get the most out of your holiday budget,
the Paris Pass allows you
into all the most popular attractions at a discounted rated. You also avoid
the queues by presenting your pass at the ticket desk. It is a wonderful
feeling to be treated as a VIP in Paris!

Outside Paris, the Chateau de
Versailles is arguably the most opulent
structure in France. Originally built as a hunting lodge, later enlarged it
fell into disrepair after the French Revolution and was eventually restored
in 1952. Situated to the south west of Paris, you will need a whole day to
visit but take note, it is closed on Mondays.

For the kids (or the kid inside you), Disneyland has developed into a
great holiday in itself. Here you can meet all the favourite characters in a
never ending sea of colour, sound and lights.

Nightlife in Paris is as elegant as the city herself. Perhaps you would like
to book a show after dining in one of the many gourmet restaurants for
which France is so famous. Indulge in some great wines and finish your
meal with a great cognac. You will be utterly spoilt for choice. Bon Apetit!

The French and Parisians in particular, love to be spoken to in their own
language, so making an effort in that direction will endear you to them.
Try learning a few phrases for ordering your drinks or your hotel room.
They may laugh a little at your pronunciation but at least you tried and its
fun too.

The weather in Paris is generally good from spring until the autumn and
surprisingly for some, August can be a great time to visit. It is warm or
even hot at times but it is also the time when many Parisians take their
holidays. Consequently it is not quite as crowded.

Getting to Paris is simple via the Charles de Gaulle or Orly airports and
you can even combine a visit to London using the Eurorail fast train if
your time permits.

Paris is for lovers. Lovers of culture, lovers of art, lovers of fashion, of
architecture, of history, of beauty and the list goes on. Put Paris on your
list of places to visit and you will become a lover too..
